2016 - Pause for the Cause

As the crab pot dropped, ringing in 2016, FBG took a much needed maintenance break. For one the D-7 continued to suck and getting towed out to the race course was getting old fast. Also technically it violated the racing rules. The floor was still in poor condition and the ladder a death trap. Other little things were piling on as well so I decided not to race the boat until I got in front of at least a few of the issues. I did not plan on taking the entire year but I did. So here is the 2016 Year in review.

The fist good news is I found a rebuilt Yanmar 1GM10 on Craig's List in North Carolina. Thanks to my Uncle Joe for driving down to New Burn to have some awesome BBQ and pick the new to me motor. From there it sat in the garage for several months. In the Spring, Dave, Rob, Doug and Paul toted it down to the boat and slid it into place- Kinda. The mounts were too tall so I ordered lower mounts, the shaft coupling did not match up so I got a new one. My worst fear was that the prop required was the opposite of the one I had but I soon learned that was not the case. I just needed to change the cables on my throttle. Sometime in early 2017 the engine started and has been running like a champ (with the exception of the fuel pump that I had to replace).
