Happy Heavenly Birthday Dr. Bob

I met Dr. Bob in the mid 1990's. I was introducing competitive sailing to a group of "at-risk" teens via the Hampton Sailing Alternatives program. We raced with the Willoughby Racers and Dr. Bob was one of several great people in Willoughby who embraced what we were doing and encouraged us in our mission.

Fast-forward to 2010 or so and we found ourselves competing Pearson Flyers. "Bad Habit" was a formattable program and proved to be a challenge for us on the race course. As challenging a competitor, we became closer friends. When I destroyed my only headsail, Dr. Bob let us have a couple of his old sails. I was always looking at how his boat was rigged when making improvements to FBG. When we were in the yard together, I ,measured every inch of "Bad Habit's" bottom to insure our specs aligned.

On the water, we were racing "Bad Habit" and rarely concerned ourselves with any other boat in PHRF B.  Rockstar Daryl's video shows our focus on "Bob" in the 2022 Founders Race:
