If you can't win the race, win the party

Yesterday we celebrated the life of our sailmaker, friend and legend, Kenny Saylor. The event had old school sailors from Annapolis to Hampton out in full-force. People I haven't seen in years sharing stories and sentiments of their time racing with Kenny. It was a celebration worthy of his amazing life. I know I did my part to "win the party".

Kenny was a maser of his craft and I had the good fortune of meeting him in the early nineties. Through mutual friends Kenny, and the North Sails loft he founded on Bridge Street, became a big part of my competitive sailing journey.

While Kenny's depth of sailing knowledge seemed limitless, he was also a man of conviction. He was a straight-shooter, always giving me candid advice and feedback. He taught me "slow is fast" in making critical decisions, that champions take their sailing seriously and most importantly to embrace the lifestyle. A Rockstar at the Rolling Stones level, I will think of Kenny not only on the water but also at the tent. Thank you Sir for our time together.
