If you have been following me then you know I am very good at pushing back dates. I thought it would be cool to race in the Old Point Comfort Yacht Club's Round the Lights Race. This was the last race we participated in before the 2008 haul out. The race is next Saturday 10/20 so getting the pole in and ready could be a bit over optimistic.
In an effort to back up to speed on my sailing, I went out with the club's Team Racing group for some three boat drills. Team racing offers more close boat action than fleet racing as well as the opportunity to apply the sailing rules frequently. In big boat fleet racing, the starting line and the occasional mark rounding or port-starboard crossing offers some rules experience, but in the three boat drills it was all about the sailing rules. Not to mention an opportunity to sail with some very experienced sailors. I really enjoyed the group, learned a lot my first outing and plan to make this my regular Thursday night activity.
For now it's back to work on the mast. Sanding and painting, painting and sanding. Next step, putting hardware back on the rig. FBG in 2012!
