Burnt Socks-New Rules-18 Days -Frekin Lights...

Some things I learned at the HYC Annual Sock Burning last Saturday:

  • Burning socks smell much worse.
  • It actually makes it snow.
  • You don't burn the socks you are wearing.
  • It's one heck of a great time.

This was my first "sock burner" and I was excited to participate. While it is still cold (very upset with that groundhog) I feel we were proactive in doing something to help warm things up watching a barrel full of stinky burning socks while drinking beer. The fact that it snowed Sunday should not take away from our attempt to chime in some warmer weather.

Well not really new rules; tonights rules clinic delivered by Rob Overton simplified the minor but significant changes adopted in The Racing Rules of Sailing for 2013-2016. I learned that each year following the Olympics a committee meets and updates the rules. Rob's strait-forward common sense approach delivered several aha moments helping me better understand the letter and sprit of the rules. Also of interest is new rule 55, A competitor shall not intentionally put trash in the water. The eco friendly rule.

Okay 18 days to race and there are still a couple of loose ends to deal with. Mostly small stuff but it must be done. Fired up as we are 90% on crew for Spring Series. I was sworn to secrecy but  apparently the cat is out of the bag. I'm still excited and keeping my mouth shut.

Okay running lights, after 2 hours in the bow (big guy, little space, not good) I am still not getting lights. I am going to trace the wires back with a 12Volt source to find a break so hope to have them going this weekend. Back is still hurting. Victory at sea in 2013!
